A New Home

Where We Were

Maître de Chai made our first wines in fall 2012 at Tenbrink Vineyards. In the years between then and now, we have bounced between friends’ and colleagues’ wineries in Sonoma, Napa, Fairfield, and beyond to process fruit and hold our tanks & barrels. Each space had its own rhythms, quirks, and neighbors, meaning harvest and cellar maintenance ebbed and flowed.

Where We Are

In fall 2019, the team moved the majority of its production to West Berkeley, at Urbano Cellars. After months of harvest and cellar work in a shared space, the men of Urbano are retiring and Maître de Chai has taken over the space. This space will allow us to bring our wines under one roof, but also includes storage and a tasting room. The new spaces are located at 2315 & 2323 B Fourth Street in Berkeley, about half a mile south of the Amtrak station, shops, & restaurants.

Coming Soon

We love hospitality. After years of working as chefs, sommeliers, and fans of the “sport” of dining out, we look forward to stretching out and offering a broader suite of experiences to MDC club members, customers, and friends. As the County and City move to later phases of reopening and restrictions relax, we plan to offer tastings by appointment, then tastings to the general public, alongside events and food. We aren’t sure what it will look like, but we have been exploring wild ideas to show you the wines and a good time. We look forward to what’s next and will share more information as soon as we have it.

Interim Offerings

While Alameda County and Berkeley continue to enforce restrictions to limit the spread of COVID-19 and maintain healthy communities, our offerings in the new winery space are limited.

To start, we are allowing the pickup of online orders. If you would like to pick up your wines, please contact us to arrange an appointment.
